New Delhi, July 31: Indian Railways has introduced a new digital facility that allows passengers to book excess luggage while making their train ticket reservations, making the travel experience more convenient and organised.

The new service enables passengers to declare additional baggage requirements in advance and complete the luggage booking process along with their ticket reservation. The move aims to reduce last-minute inconvenience at railway stations and improve luggage management.

Under railway guidelines, passengers can carry a certain amount of luggage free of cost depending on their travel class. Those carrying baggage beyond the permitted limit will need to pay applicable charges and complete the required booking process.

The initiative is expected to bring greater transparency to luggage handling and help passengers plan their journeys better. By integrating luggage services with online ticket booking, Indian Railways aims to provide a smoother and more passenger-friendly travel experience.

Passengers are advised to follow railway baggage rules, carry only permitted items, and avoid carrying prohibited or hazardous materials. Items such as explosives, inflammable substances, and other safety-risk materials are not allowed during train travel.

The digital luggage booking facility is part of Indian Railways’ continued efforts to expand online services, improve passenger convenience, and make train travel more efficient.
