Roblox Appoints Sunil Rao as Managing Director for India

Delhi NCR, Apr 30: Roblox, an immersive platform for games and creation, has announced the appointment of Sunil Rao as Managing Director, Roblox India. Rao will join the company in May and will lead its India business, focusing on expanding local presence, building strategic partnerships, supporting creators, and aligning regional needs with global priorities.

With over two decades of leadership experience across global technology platforms, venture capital, and developer ecosystems, Rao will serve as Roblox’s most senior representative in India. He will work closely with local teams and partners to drive day-to-day strategy and execution in the market.

A key focus of his role will be to strengthen India’s rapidly growing community of Roblox developers and creators. The company aims to enable local studios to scale their work using Roblox tools and unlock monetization opportunities. In 2025, Roblox’s global creator community earned over $1.5 billion, highlighting the platform’s growing creator economy. Roblox provides free and accessible tools that empower millions of developers worldwide to learn and build skills in coding, design, and entrepreneurship. The platform also prioritizes user safety through robust systems designed to ensure a secure and positive experience.

Prior to joining Roblox, Rao was part of the leadership team at Amazon Web Services, where he led strategy and corporate business development across Asia-Pacific and Japan. Earlier, he was a Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners, working closely with startup founders to drive innovation and scale. He has also held key roles at Symbian, Nokia, and Google, contributing to the growth of major mobile and internet platforms.

With one of the world’s largest youth populations and a rapidly expanding digital ecosystem, India represents a significant long-term growth opportunity for Roblox as it continues to invest in building a vibrant and inclusive creator economy in the country.
